For nearly half a century, British Columbia has benefited from one of the strongest agricultural land protection systems in the world. This is particularly important in the Fraser Valley. Abbotsford is home to Canada's largest agricultural economy, and produces dozens of crops that support a fresh, local food system and are valued for export around the world. This talk explores the evolution of the Agricultural Land Reserve, including the recent changes to protect farmland from illegal dumping, speculation, and mega-mansion development. Future challenges are explored as well.
